Plan Reading & Estimating

The Center for Tribal Transportation (CTT) is offering a two-day in-person training on Plan Reading & Estimating, designed specifically for tribal transportation professionals responsible for plan reading/estimating on tribal lands.

Learning Objectives:

  • Read plan and profile sheets, typical sections, & cross-sections
  • Pull quantities from culvert schedules, signing sheets, & bridge general plans
  • Calculate earthwork using the Average End-Area method
  • Read transit site plans & verify ADA compliance
  • Build unit costs from labor, equipment, & material components
  • Apply remote site & tribal project cost adjustments
  • Produce a complete Independent Cost Estimate (ICE)
  • Analyze a bid tabulation & identify unbalanced bids
  • Review & approve contractor pay estimates
  • Communicate cost estimates to tribal council

Target Audience:

  • Tribal transportation directors, project managers, public works inspectors, & BIA 638 program staff who review plans or oversee cost estimations
