2026 Hazardous Materials Multimodal Event

Posted: 9/6/2026

CONFERENCE: October 21, 2026 - October 22, 2026 , 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PT

This in-person two-day safety event in Frisco, Texas, is dedicated to providing crucial regulatory updates, compliance assistance, and operational guidance to help ensure the safe transportation of hazardous materials.

Hosted by the Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's (PHMSA) Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS) Outreach & Engagement team, the sessions are grounded in the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171–180), which specify requirements for the safe and secure transportation of hazardous materials in commerce by rail, air, vessel, and highway.

OHMS is showcasing safety programs, compliance initiatives, and current regulatory updates, and attendees will hear directly from the agency's top subject matter experts, compliance investigators, and federal modal partners. The event also addresses compliance for anyone who transports or causes hazmat to be shipped, covering key functions such as: classing hazardous materials, filling packagings, marking & labeling, preparing shipping papers, and the proper handling, loading, securing, and segregation of packages.

To ensure all attendees experience the complete safety curriculum while managing session capacities, the event features a collaborative concurrent track swap format where breakout groups will rotate through specialized sessions. Participants will rotate through dynamic sessions covering critical topics such as lithium-ion battery transport safety, modal guidelines, packaging requirements, fireworks and explosives, nurse tanks, and common compliance issues.

There will also be a joint morning Fireside Chat panel on Day 2 featuring OHMS reps to foster direct discussion on key operational challenges.

Attendees are highly encouraged to pre-submit specific
