The Southern California Association of Governments's (SCAG) most recent Toolbox Tuesday session, entitled “Advancing Clean Transit Through Innovative Tools and Strategies”, explored practical strategies and best practices for transitioning Southern California transit systems to zero-emission technologies. The session introduces SCAG’s new regional toolkit from the Innovative Clean Transit Regional Assessment Study as well as resources from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Caltrans, and lessons learned from transit operators across the SCAG region who have implemented zero-emission buses. Speakers included representatives from SCAG, CARB, Caltrans, the SunLine Transit Agency, and the Antelope Valley Transit Authority. 

SCAG’s new toolkit provides practical guidance for transit agencies to plan, procure, deploy, and operate zero-emission buses and supporting infrastructure. The toolbox also translates complex technical, operational, and organizational considerations into more accessible formats, including step-by-step guides, templates, decision-support tools, and fact sheets. These resources can help agencies make informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle while considering cost, scalability, and operational needs.
